Review – Iron Man (Mini-Review)
- Gus 'Magnus' McManus
Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark. Whoever cast him should get a medal and a raise. He makes the whole movie works. I'm fairly certain that a lot of the time when he quips with other actors or the robot, it's just him making up lines that are not in the script and they came off as natural and funny. Other acting are generally good although Gweneth Paltrow is one of the weak character but I suspect that it's because there's little to work with the lines she's given.
The overall story is concise and fun enough for the audience to just lose themselves into the film. Although it is not without plot holes like why would they make Stark to build them the very same missiles they can just buy under the table from Stane? Or obvious bending of the physical law (anyone falling from that high up in a suit of metal would become a meat bag, building a fusion power source in a cave? wtf?) but that's fine since you have to suspend your disbelief somewhat for this film.
The FX are also great and looks believable, I'd say some of the flying scenes even rivals those from Superman Returns. The movie is also well edited together, as there were hardly any unnecessary scenes and the action didn't go on for too long/short. Favreau earned his super-stardom Hollywood-director spot from this film more so than Wiseman and his Die Hard 4. He's also in the film but not as intrusive as M.Night in his.
Stay behind after the credit for a guy with an eye patch who's had it with this mutherfucking supervillians.
Overall Iron Man ranks way up there right behind X-Men and Spider-man. And without a doubt there will be 2 more sequels to come.
